SWARTZ AND NISSLEY CEMETERY
Ann Swartz provided an overview of her family history and of the Swartz/Nissley Cemetery on May 18, 2023. Many of the photos were taken by Ann. Ann and her family have been working on cleaning up the vines and poison ivy from the cemetery. The LSTHPS hopes to take on further clean-up and restoration of this cemetery in the future.
The Swartz/Nissley cemetery is located 1 mile south on Farm Lane off Longview Drive (formaly Swartz Farm). It contains the tombstones of the earliest members of the Swartz family in this country, including that of Christian Schwartz, who was born on November 16, 1745.
According to the "History of the Counties of Dauphin and Lebanon," Solomon L. Swartz, of Middletown, traces his descent from Christian Schwartz (I), who was born in Germany, and on emigrating to the United States settled first in Lancaster (now Berks) County. He moved thence to Dauphin County, where he became the owner of two hundred and sixty acres of preservation.
