OUR HISTORY

The Lower Swatara Township Historic Preservation Society was created and founded by five area residents who wanted to see the fabric and history of the community landscape protected and preserved.  It's creation was recognized by the Board of Commissions at a public meeting on October 18, 2017.

The Lower Swatara Township Historic Preservation Society is a tax-exempt and a non-profit organization as recognized under state and Federal laws.

Our mission is to identify, educate, promote interest in, and advocate for the preservation of historic buildings, cemeteries, and landscapes in Lower Swatara Township.

We seek out historic information and simply write, catalog, and preserve the history of the area with this website, photos, prose, and oral presentations.

We promote historic properties through educational programs and presentations, awards, and other community-related activities.

We provide the means that property owners may apply for a plaque to recognize their home, business, or landscape as playing a role in our local history.
